Sewa refers to Selfless

What motivates you?

In the context of a Gurdwara Sahib (a Sikh place of worship), Sewa refers to selfless service performed by individuals as an act of devotion and humility. It is a fundamental concept in Sikhism, emphasizing the importance of serving others without any desire for personal gain or recognition.

There are different forms of Sewa in a Gurdwara:

Tan (Physical Service): This involves physical tasks such as cleaning the Gurdwara, washing dishes, cooking and serving food in the Langar (community kitchen), or helping with any manual work needed.

Man (Mental Service): This includes offering prayers, teaching others about Sikhism, or participating in Kirtan (singing of hymns) and other religious activities.

Dhan (Material Service): This involves donating money or resources to support the Gurdwara or the community.

Sewa is done with the spirit of humility and equality, as it is believed that by serving others, one serves God. It is a way to practice compassion, empathy, and humility, core values in Sikhism.
