Ramgarhia Sabha Southall at Oswald Street, c. 1974

The Sikhs coming from East Africa were predominantly Ramgarhia Sikhs, and settled largely in the areas of London, Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Leicester and Leeds. While the Ramgarhia Board was founded at an earlier date in Leeds, the Ramgarhia Sabha Southall was formed in 1966 by Mohinder Singh Rayat, Ranjodh Singh Dewana, Gurcharan Singh Riyat, Pyara Singh Phull, Swaran Singh Ubhi, Kapoor Singh Virdee, Pargat Singh Mudhur, Jaswant Singh Phull and Sucha Singh Chana. The Sabha began holding weekly prayers at the local Bingo Hall, which it hired, and later at Shackleton Hall in Southall. In 1969 it purchased an old laundry at 53–55 Oswald Road and converted the flagship Gurdwara for the Ramgarhia Sikhs from East Africa, which opened in 1971
